Carpet installation in a Fort Myers, FL home

Should you get carpet if you have allergies?

Yes, it is safe to have carpet if you have allergies. According to a study by Airmid Health Group, an independent biomedical research group, effectively cleaned carpets trap pollutants and other particles where they'll remain until the rug is cleaned again. Designed and evaluated by Dr. Bruce Mitchell, practicing allergy and immunology physician and Airmid Chairman/CEO, the study was broken into two parts, examining the rug before and after cleaning.

It found that, even before it was cleaned, levels of allergens, including cat and dust mite allergens, were lower in the air over all other types of flooring, even when they were disturbed by the simplest activities like walking or bouncing a ball.

This is one example of personalized service; we know allergies and other respiratory problems are a significant concern, so we responded with this research.

Carpet flooring: low emitting VOCs

Rugs improve indoor air quality because their fibers trap particles instead of letting them fly around the air, so you don't breathe them in. While vacuuming is effective in removing surface dirt, only a deep cleaning will remove the confined particles. We recommend that it be done every 12 to 18 months; you should know that many manufacturer warranties also require this. Keep your rugs clean because dirty ones block the air around walls, where it's especially needed, creating a stuffy, unpleasant odor that also impacts health.

Other benefits of carpet

Rugs insulate against noise, eliminating noise from footsteps, honking horns, beeping devices, muffled conversations, and more, especially important for nurseries, children's rooms, and shift workers who sleep at odd hours. They also provide safety and prevent hard falls. First, there's good traction, making it hard to slip. Second, if you do fall, there's plenty of cushion and softness.

Carpet is one of the most popular floorings, with all the colors, styles, patterns, and price points. There's something for everyone and, thanks to modern technology, rugs are constantly evolving with digital patterning, larger color palettes, ultra-durability, and superior stain resistance.
